How a Health Emergency
(happily)
changed our lives forever

In March 1994, our lives were very nearly shattered by a health emergency that
threatened my husband's life and interrupted our life as we had known it. It
would prove to be the catalyst of a completely different life for us, and
thankfully a stepping stone to better times.

In February 1994,
Robert and I began an amazing journey while he nursed a broken leg (broken by
surgery to correct another problem). Almost four years, six surgeries, a new
health business and three novels later, we embarked on what was to become the
most thrilling (and unexpected) phase of our life together.

Thanks to the
discovery of some little-know alternative health remedies, his recovery from
staph infection and three years on high dosages of powerful drugs, was shortened
immensely. This began his new interest in health and, fortunately, also resulted
in a new career -
live blood analysis. His new
skills as a microscopist have certainly come in handy because the pace of our
past-middle-aged lives is such that we need every ounce of energy possible. Live

amazing upbeat attitude to life despite this, his second near death experience!

Why do we need all this energy? In December 1998, we published Robert's first
novel,
Lizzie: Lethal Innocence, the fascinating and
amusing tale of a young girl in early 1800s England who became a teen
entrepreneur. By 2001, this oft called "feel-good" book, had become a
Canadian Bestseller
and today is in its third printing solely from sales in our local area of
Victoria, BC/Vancouver Island, to locals, tourists and through our
internet site. By 2003, the name of J. Robert Whittle was becoming a
household name in reading circled as we had published 4 novels and turnedLizzie into an Audio Book.
That year, we also introduced our books to the BC mainland and Bound by Loyalty
also became a Bestseller. There was no stopping Robert's popularity as an
author now and we rallied to the challenge. There are now four books in theLizzie Series, three books in the Victoria Chronicles (Bound by Loyalty, Loyalty's Reward and Loyalty's
Haven), and
Whispers Across Time.Happily, two
of these books are
IPPY Award winners.
In 2000, Robert and I co-authored a
children's story which we named Leprechaun Magic
(Robert's wonderful imagination combined with my grandmother skills helped make
this such a popular book with the little folk (ages 4-9) that I released it on
CD an Audio Book the next year. In 2004, I published
3 On A Moonbeam, Book 2 in what has become known as the
Moonbeam Series by Joyce Sandilands. This was my first solo book as an
author and features our granddaughter, Shayla, who helped me with the editing
and read her own part for the audio book at the age of 9! What fun!
Our lives just seem to keep getting
busier but still I somehow manage to publish something, be it a novel,
children's book or audio, each year. In 2005, we
produced something totally different - an audio CD of Robert's fascinating and,
often hilarious, life stories, Laughing Through Life:
Tales of a Yorkshireman. It has proved very popular and will, no doubt,
be the only record of his life as he refuses to write his autobiography.
