Some suggestions for new writers or self-publishers

First:  Join an online writer's group. There are many excellent writer's groups on the web and possibly even in your city. Personally, I chose the web as I do not have the time to attend meetings. You will receive support, suggestions, useful publishing world news, and even critique (if you ask for it!). An easy place to begin is at Yahoo Groups www.yahoogroups.com  or on the Ryze Network. You could also do a web search for 'writers group' adding your own city, state or province. You might be surprised at what you find. One of my suggestions is below.

Second: You are no doubt asking questions like: How did you get started? Why did we self-publish? How can I do the same thing? Where do I start? These questions can be easily answered by reading more of my website and hundreds of others. It takes a bit of time to sort it all out but if I did it 7 years ago when there was far less information available, anyone can do it today. I've added some useful links to make it a bit easier. One word of warning, however, be prepared for working 24/7.

Being a self-published author of perhaps even one book may not allow for much down time if you want it to be successful. You also need a good portion of luck, for instance, listen to your soul when it leads you in certain directions, when it tells you to take a risk, or you meet an interesting person. You never know door it might open.

You also must enjoy what you are doing for it will surely be a labour of love well before you strike it big. We are still waiting! Yes, our books are fairly successful in the big scheme of things but I am still waiting to take Robert on that special holiday!! We know that our dream of a national or worldwide success could be just around the corner if we can just find the right formula or the right person. It happened to J K Rowling, why not us . . . !
